Tipping Eliminator
Expand Help/Faq

Quick Tips

  • Pick one winner each week, to build up a 'win streak' of correct picks;
  • Each team can only be picked once during your streak;
  • If you pick a losing team, you are eliminated. Your best win streak is stored and you may start again;
  • If you're not feeling confident for any upcoming round, you may skip it without breaking your streak.

How Eliminator works

  • Tipping Eliminator challenges you to pick ONE unique winning team and maintain a streak of wins during the 2012 AFL Season, with the maximum achievable streak being 18.
  • The catch is that you can only pick each team for any upcoming round ONCE during each streak of wins. Once you've picked a team that wins, they can't be selected again for the remainder of the current streak.
  • A losing team picked means that you are 'eliminated' and your streak comes to an end, however you can immediately start on a new streak (and all teams will become available for selection again).
  • Eliminator is all about picking winners. If the result of the match is a DRAW, the pick will be voided - you'll NOT be penalised and you won't receive a correct result. You'll simply maintain your streak and may choose that team again in a future round.
  • If any team does not play in any given round, they'll not be available for selection and your Eliminator options may be limited.

Not feeling confident?

  • If you're not feeling confident (or you forget to make a pick) for any upcoming round, you can simply skip it. Your streak will be maintained without any penalty.
  • Be sure that you don't run out of rounds to maximise your winning streak - remember, the maximum achievable streak is 18 and skipping too many rounds may mean that you run out of rounds and opportunities.

Your best streak

  • Your best win streak will always be stored even if you're eliminated.
  • You'll be ranked based on your best win streak until and if/when you can improve on it.
  • Your margin prediction is used as a tiebreaker if there's more than one entry with the same win streak. This score is accumulated throughout the Season, with the lowest margin score being the highest-ranked.
  • Your margin score is associated with your streak and stored with your best streak. If you're eliminated, your margin score is also reset.
Point scoring
Stat Description Points Awarded/Deducted
Win streak The win streak score is incremented by 1 for every round where a winner is selected.
Non-submission If an entry is not submitted for any given round, that round is void and the win streak is maintained.
Incorrect tip An incorrect tip breaks the win streak and the entry is reset to 0. The best win streak is stored and the entry is ranked on this basis, until and when that win streak is improved upon. Margin prediction must be submitted for a valid entry in upcoming round .

One Team Tip
Expand Help/Faq

Quick Tips

  • Select one team for the Season;
  • Each round, pick whether they'll win or lose and submit your margin;
  • Maintain the lowest possible margin score based on the accuracy of your predictions.

Select one team, predict the score

  • One Team Tip tests your skill and nerve by predicting the result of your single selected team over the entire 2012 Season.
  • Select your team on entry (it can be your own team that you support, or any other).
  • Each round you'll be required to predict whether your selected team will win or lose, and the score margin.
  • You will receive a margin score each round based on the accuracy of your prediction. For example, if you tip your team to win by 10 points and they only win by 5, your weekly margin score will be 5 points. If you tip your team to win by 10 points and they lose by 15, your weekly margin score will be 25 (the difference between your prediction and the actual score).
  • You'll be ranked based on your cumulative margin score, with the lowest score being ranked highest.
  • If you forget to enter your One Team Tip prediction for any upcoming round, you'll receive the average margin score for that round from ALL entries in the competition. Similarly, if joining at a later stage during the Season, you'll start with an average score for all missed rounds from all entries.
Point scoring
Stat Description Points Awarded/Deducted
Margin Score & Cumulative Margin Score One Team Tip entry is ranked on the basis of the lowest Margin Score awarded being the best (see left on how the Margin Score is calculated).
Margin Prediction Must be submitted for a valid entry for any upcoming Round. Non-submission for any given Round - the average Margin Score for that particular Round from ALL entries will be awarded.

  • Within each league, you will compete against your fellow members automatically in all three Tipping, Eliminator and One Team Tip games.

Unlimited size leagues

  • There are no limits as to how many entries can be a part of a tipping league.
  • ALL private and public leagues that don't have at least 3 entries at the conclusion and publishing of the next upcoming round's results, will be merged or have entries added to form leagues of 16.
  • Any existing entries within each league will remain in that league. All leagues must be formed prior to the beginning of the next upcoming round to avoid being merged or have other entries added.
  • You can leave/change between leagues at any time.

Public Leagues

  • Creating a public league will allow you to invite anyone you like to your league.
  • Anyone who joins your league or obtains your unique league code will also have the ability to join and invite others to this league.
  • If you selected to join a public league, your entry will be placed in one automatically, at the completion of the next upcoming round, with publishing of results.

Private Leagues

  • If you create a private league, you'll be the only one who can invite others to this league (via the League page).
  • As 'Administrator', you'll also have the ability to REMOVE tippers from your league.
  • Anyone joining a Private league is not able to invite others via the league page.

  • When using the automated league invite form on your league page to send invitations, your friends/relatives will be provided with a direct link to the registration page, and will be added to your league automatically upon successful registration. You can leave/change between leagues at any time, by using the facilities available on your league page.

Setup your Facebook and Twitter leagues!

  • If you have a Facebook and/or Twitter account, you can now link it to your Sportal AFL Tipping entry.
  • In addition to all the benefits (unified login with your Facebook/Twitter credentials, sharing of data to your wall/followers, etc), you'll be able to setup your very own Facebook and/or Twitter leagues, which are in addition to your maximum 5 regular leagues!
  • On linking your account, Sportal AFL Tipping will automatically setup your Facebook and/or Twitter league.
  • You'll be ranked based on overall points against any of your Facebook/Twitter contacts who also play Sportal AFL Tipping and have linked their accounts.
  • In addition, you can automatically invite any of those not playing with a simple wall post or tweet directly from Sportal AFL Tipping - or invite them to one of your regular leagues.
Leagues FAQs.

Q: How I do create an office comp, or a group where I can compete against my friends? A: If you've been invited to join a group by a friend or relative, please use the information that was emailed to you to join that league. If not, you will be given the option to create your own league and invite other friends and relatives to join your league, on registration. You can be a part of up to five leagues.

Q: I've found out that all of my friends are in another league. How do I swap leagues so I can play against them? Can you move my entry for me? A: You can swap leagues on the League page by clicking on the 'CREATE/JOIN' (to join an additional league) or 'LEAVE' (leave your current league and join the new one) buttons and entering the desired League Code in the box provided on your league page, at any time.

Q: How do I enter a new public league? A: To enter a new public league, you will need to create one. In your Leagues page, simply click on the 'CREATE/JOIN' button and follow the instructions. That league will then be merged with other teams after the publishing of the next round's results.

Q: How do I leave a league? A: In your Leagues page, simply click on the 'LEAVE' button to leave a league. Please note, you must be in at least one league.

Q: Why can't I invite people into my league? A: If you have been invited into a Private League, then only the league's creator has the ability to invite more people into that league from their Leagues page.

Q: Can I remove people from my league? A: If you are a Private League creator, you will have the option to remove people from your league.

Q: Do I win a prize for coming first in my private/public league? A: No. Unfortunately due to the enormous amount of users/leagues in the competition, it is virtually impossible to organise and award prizes to winners in each league.

Q: Can I change the name of the league that I created? A: Your league name is a unique identifier in the game and can only be changed prior to your league's first round of play.

Q: The league that I was in is now different, or its name changed... Why? A: We may add entries, or merge leagues where they do not attract enough competitors. All care will be taken to ensure that all original entries that you had in your league will still be there, in addition to new ones. Your league name may therefore change based on these movements.

Q: I just joined. Why wasn't I added to a league, and where is the option to create one? A: Everyone who signs up for Sportal AFL Tipping will be a part of a league. Look for the "Leagues" link and button in the menu bar on the left to access your leagues.

  • In the case where the entrant has registered after a Round or several Rounds have closed, the entrant will receive the average tips score (i.e. total number of points divided by entrants) for any previously completed Round prior to their registration, rounded down to the nearest whole number, with up to a maximum of 4 points being awarded for all missed Rounds.
  • The Margin Score is used as a tie-breaker should more than one entry be ranked equally based on points. The Margin Score is calculated based on the difference between the submitted Margin Prediction and the actual result. For example, if a team is tipped to WIN by 10 points and the actual Result is a WIN by 5 points, the Margin Score awarded will be 5 points. If a team is tipped to WIN by 10 points and the team LOSES by 5 points, the Margin Score awarded is 15 points. The Cumulative Margin Score is the total of all Margin Scores awarded for all completed Rounds to date. The lowest Margin Score and Cumulative Margin Score is ranked highest.
  • Tipping Prize
  • The Prize Winner Selection Process will be conducted by a representative of Vapormedia Pty Ltd at 107/425 Docklands Drive, Docklands VIC 3008 ("Prize Winner Selection Location").
  • There will be one Season Tipping Prize of $1,000 worth of personal training sessions, awarded at the completion of the 23 round season (calculated at 1 session per week for 25 weeks, $40 per session - if the winner lives in a remote location, the prize may be substituted for a gift voucher of equal value, at the determination of the Promoter).
  • The Major Tipping Prize will be determined at the Winner Selection Location at 12pm on 03.09.2012. There will be a total of one Major Tipping Prize. The total Major Tipping Prize pool is valued at $1000.00. In the event of a tie between two or more eligible entrants with the equal highest score, the Major Tipping Prize winner will be the entrant who achieved the lowest Cumulative Margin Score. If this fails to break the tie, the Major Tipping Prize winner will be the entrant who registered first.
  • The Major Tipping Prize winner will be notified by email and phone.
Eliminator Component: How to enter
  • After registration, entrants may enter in all remaining Rounds of the Eliminator Component which have not been completed or locked out. The Eliminator Component will only be conducted during the 2012 AFL season excluding any round in the Finals.
  • If the entrant wishes to provide their tips for a particular Round, they must do so before the lockout time for that Round, or the particular match (as notified on the Website), by visiting the Website and submitting their tip of one team that they tip to win and the Margin Prediction, in accordance with the instructions. Each entrant is only permitted to select the same team once during the Promotion Period.
  • How scores are determined

    Point scoring
    Stat Description Points Awarded/Deducted
Win streak The win streak score is incremented by 1 for every round where a winner is selected.
Non-submission If an entry is not submitted for any given round, that round is void and the win streak is maintained.
Incorrect tip An incorrect tip breaks the win streak and the entry is reset to 0. The best win streak is stored and the entry is ranked on this basis, until and when that win streak is improved upon. Margin prediction must be submitted for a valid entry in upcoming round.

  • The objective of the Eliminator Component is to obtain the highest 'Win Streak Score' by correctly determining a winning team in each Round.
  • The entrant will start with a Win Streak Score of 0. The entrant's Win Streak Score will be increased by 1 point for every Round where a winner is selected. If an entry is not submitted for any given Round, that Round is void and the Win Streak Score is maintained.
  • An incorrect tip breaks the Win Streak, and the participant's Win Streak Score is reset to 0 for the following Round.
  • The best Win Streak Score of the entrant is stored as the "Best Win Streak" and the entrant is ranked on this basis, until and if that Win Streak Score is improved upon by the entrant.
  • If the entrant fails to submit their Margin Prediction for any given Round, the average Margin Score for that particular Round from ALL entries will be awarded.
  • In the case where the entrant has registered late, the entrant will receive the average Margin Score from all previously missed Rounds, based on ALL entries irrespective of the team selected.
  • The Margin Score is used as a tie-breaker should more than one entry be ranked equally based on Win Streak Score. The lowest Margin Score and Cumulative Margin Score is ranked highest
  • There are no prizes associated with the Eliminator Component.
One Team Tip Component

How to enter

  • After registration, entrants may enter in all remaining Rounds of the One Team Tip Component which have not been completed or locked out. The One Team Tip Component will only be conducted during the 2012 AFL season excluding any round in the Finals.
  • At the time of registration, the entrant must select their favourite team, which will be used for the duration of the One Team Tip Component. The object for the entrant is to predict the score of their favourite team in each Round (i.e. the Margin Prediction) and achieve the lowest Cumulative Margin Score overall.
  • The Cumulative Margin Score is the total of all Margin Scores awarded for all completed Rounds to date. The lowest Margin Score and Cumulative Margin Score is ranked highest.
  • The entrant should submit the Margin Prediction for their team in each Round. If the entrant fails to submit their Margin Prediction for any given Round, the average Margin Score for that particular Round from ALL entries will be awarded. In the case where the entrant has registered late, the entrant will receive the average Margin Score from all previously missed Rounds, based on ALL entries irrespective of the team selected.
  • There are no prizes associated with the One Team Tip Component.
